Diabetes is one of the most prevalent chronic illness worldwide, and yet access to good diabetes care remains elusive for many people with diabetes. While testing for diabetes has becoming increasingly easier and more straight-forward, diabetes remains under-tested and under-diagnosed in the population. It is estimated that 1 in 2 people with diabetes are not even aware that they have diabetes. For those already diagnosed with diabetes, many do not have access to regular HbA1c tests, complications screening, ongoing diabetes self-management education and support, modern treatments including newer insulins and insulin delivery devices, as well as the latest glucose monitoring systems.
Our mission at Diabetes Access is to provide educational resources for people living with diabetes and family members looking after them, as well as providing easier access to local diabetes care providers where they can get the appropriate treatment, monitoring, and education.
